Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vlc

Sometimes the value for the Default Disc Device in the Preferences
window (CTRL+P) -> Input & Codecs is garbage (see attached screenshot).

Typing in or setting a correct value and clicking Save does not stick.
The same garbage value shows again when I go back to the Preferences
window.

Workaround, sometimes this can be fixed by going to the Preferences
window and clicking on Show Settings [X] All and then go to Input /
Codecs.

This is impossible to fix using the Simple setting under the Preferences
window, only work around is to quit VLC, go to Advanced in the
Preferences window fix it in Input / Codecs -> Default device -> DVD
device

But this does not always work. If you update the preferences again when
the Show Settings [X] Simple is checked then the Default Disc Device
shows up as garbage again.

Linux, Ubuntu 9.10, VLC 1.0.2 Goldeneye.

** Affects: vlc (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
