Adding
Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "true"
to xorg.conf doesn't work for me. The relevant part of xorg.conf is currently:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Standard Video Kort"
Driver "ati"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
Option "UseFBDev" "true"
Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "true"
EndSection
This is the default with the suggested option added.
