The disk has already been wiped and reformatted (with feisty :). I could not find any installer logs (on the livecd /var/log there was an empty installer directory) and on the target parition ls -ltr in /var/log and /root showed *Nothing* install related. There *should* be an error message showing where logs are after a failed install. I had to hunt and gave up :(
I mounted all four sda partitions that the *kernel* saw and not one of them was the windows os one... it appears to have been installed over. I got the 'could not load operating system' error as well trying to reboot. I don't know about gparted but as the first comment output shows, the kernel dmesg and /dev showed 4 sda partitions but cfdisk etc. only showed 3. Anyway this was actually the last straw. Microsofts closed dynamic disk format (& the fact I couldn't undo it after I changed to it) just broke the camel's back. -- Grub Install Failed, Fatal Error https://launchpad.net/bugs/96115 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
