I'm not sure why this bug has been assigned to the kernel.  What has
made people think that this is a kernel problem, rather than a problem
in the synaptics driver?

Also, although snippets of /var/log/Xorg.0.log have been posted, it's
really much more useful to have the entire log attached - from the logs,
it looks like the synaptics driver is correctly binding to the alps
touchpad, and is setting up various input properties.  Could you please
attach the full /var/log/Xorg.0.log Vladimir?
