I have also the same problem. I have a ATI Radeon 9000 mobility Linux mtst010 2.6.35-6-generic #9~lucid1-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jun 30 11:34:29 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux X.Org X Server 1.7.6 KDE 4.4.5
kdm.log says: drmRadeonCmdBuffer: -12. Kernel failed to parse or rejected command stream. Jul 8 10:06:04 mtst010 kdm[736]: X server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly This happens very often. System is unuseable. But I can't say how to reproduce. But I think it happens when I change the focus to an other window or maximise a window -- X.org crashes sometimes.
