FYI, VLC 1.1.0 is already in Ubuntu Maverick. Ubuntu keeps unsupported old VLC versions in their stable releases. That is Ubuntu's choice and Ubuntu's problem to deal with. The VLC development team does not have the human resources to maintain and support older versions.
