Public bug reported:

HP Pavillion DV9628NR laptop Synaptics Touchpad stopped working. Ubuntu 10.04 
has been installed for 3 weeks on a dual boot Windows 7 laptop and Synaptics 
had been working successfully. Synaptics works correctly booted to Windows 7. 
Have reinstalled xserver-xorg-input-sybaptics. Have entered the following in 
shmconfig.fdi:

  <device>
    <match key="input.x11_driver" string="synaptics">
      <merge key="input.x11_options.SHMConfig" type="string">on</merge>
