This bug can be seen while running linux on a 'Live' CD. I tried prior
versions of Ubuntu, latest Debian, and latest Mint. From these, and
from msevior's report on Fedora, it appears that this bug happens only
on Ubuntu 10.04 (Mint is derived from Ubuntu 10.04.)

linuxmint-9-gnome-cd-i386.iso (has numpad up-arrow problem)
linuxmint-9-gnome-cd-amd64.iso (has numpad up-arrow problem)
To see the bug:
Run as live CD ('try ubuntu').
Connect to internet.
Start synaptic package manager. Search for abiword.
If abiword not found then in settings/repositories add: community
maintained (universe).
Install abiword.
Run abiword.
Type some lines of text in abiword.
Use the mouse to place the cursor in the middle of the new text.
Check that the cursor moves normally using the non-numpad arrow keys.
Check that numlock is toggled off.
Try moving the cursor with the numpad arrow keys. Trouble starts after
using the numpad up-arrow.
