Having occasional freezing issues on Lucid 10.04 x86-64 on a Dell E6510
laptop. At random times, Compiz will freeze up, keyboard and mouse
become unusable. Sometimes the mouse cursor can be moved around, but no
clicking is possible. No error messages in logs at all (Xorg.0.log,
kernel, session, syslog), and I can switch to a VT by holding down
Ctrl+Alt+F1 for a while (doesn't react instantly) and fix things from
there. Observing top output while X is frozen, I see Xorg constantly
using about 50% CPU. Killing Compiz with TERM signal unfreezes desktop,
and from there I can recover by either starting up metacity on the
display, or by re-starting a new Compiz process.

Dell E6510 laptop, Core i7 620, 8 GB RAM, Nvidia NVS3100M 512MB with
proprietary driver 195.36.24. Ubuntu 10.04 x86-64, running Compiz and
all the latest updates, including -proposed.
