Note that you can choose "all files" in the bottom right corner of the dialogue
and get a list of all files in the directory, regardless of their file
extension.
I do not see any better solution, or do you suggest to first check the true
type of every file before displaying the file list? This would slow down the
dialogue considerably. For example, I have a directory with ~500 PDFs, running
"file" on all of them takes ~4s. For directories containing movies etc. it
might even get worse.
