Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

I have just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on an old P4 desktop.

All is fine except I can't access grub at all.

Instead I get the message

error . invalid extent.

Ubuntu loads fine btw, but I should be able to access grub (to load
another OS/recovery mode)

Any suggestions.

(one thing that 'may' be the cause (although I can't see how) is that I
installed Ubuntu on a different monitor to the one I am now using on the
machine???

Cheers and thank you for Ubuntu !
