Ubuntu has never supported kernels older than 2.6, so this failure is
expected.
I'm marking the bug as rejected. LD_ASSUME_KERNEL is used to work
around bugs in various parts of the system. Please file a bug on the
thing causing you to need this solution so that we get it fixed
properly.
