Having determined that the observed "missed key-release events" problem happens regardless of i8042.noloop, I've submitted that issue as a separate bug report LP: #607350.
** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Description changed: On a default install the touchpad does not work. Adding "i8042.noloop" - to the kernel parameters does get the touchpad working. A possible side- - effect may be that sometimes key-release events are lost, so - "i8042.noloop" may not be the best solution. I notice that sometimes - when pressing down-arrow to scroll down a heavy webpage, sometimes when - I release the down-arrow it keeps scrolling down until I press down- - arrow again. + to the kernel parameters does get the touchpad working.
