I've decided re-install Lucid 10.04 LTS as to give it a clean slate and
it works fine. Prior to this I did test it out on the Live CD and it
worked fine with the headphones and speakers - I can hear both at the
same time....but that is fine because I can turn the knob on my speakers
to off and hear from the headphones instead. I'm just so glad that the
headphone jack isn't broken and to have both sources working is better
than nothing!
I'm sure it is nothing to do with ALSA of the configuration and pretty
sure it is related to something else although I've no idea and can only
guess PULSEAUDIO software. I've not got this in my Applications menu
but probably got related files from pulseaudio.
I'm happy to give any configuration files etc of my clean system so that
you can have something to compare with....
Let me know!
