This sounds like your /var/lib/dpkg/available file is missing? Can you please
confirm that via runing (in a terminal):
$ ls -la /var/lib/dpkg/
and post the output to a seperate bugreport please? Your logs look different
and unreleated to the original report.

This is a strange error. Can you please run (in a terminal):
$ ls -la /var/cache/apt/archives > /tmp/ls-output
and attach the output (as a file) to this report?
