my Acer Extensa works fine with all Ubuntu versions until and inclusive 9.10 - but every attempt to install 10.04 or to upgrade to 10.04 fails with the above symptoms. None of the proposed workarounds made any difference so I give up and leave it with 9.10. I will ive it another try when 10.10 is available.
