Add to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file following line:

        Identifier      "Default Screen"
        Monitor         "Configured Monitor"
        Device          "Configured Video Device"
        SubSection "Display"
                Modes           "1024x768"
                Virtual 1024 768
        EndSubSection
EndSection

If this file doesn't exist, try to create it
