I did the usual daily system update and minutes ago a new kernel has hit
the mirrors and got installed with the update:
Linux till 2.6.35-11-generic #16-Ubuntu SMP Sat Jul 24 21:37:44 UTC 2010
x86_64 GNU/Linux
I booted and with this kernel the mouse problem is gone.
