I finally got to test the grub update. Before with wubi, when it
prompted the checkbox 'skip installing grub' you had to check the box to
go forward. Now, if you don't check the box, when you click on Forward,
it goes back to the select a device to install grub screen that had been
suppressed, and presents a checkbox with the drive /dev/sda. So users
who are not paying attention or don't understand grub, might click on
this and install grub to the MBR.

I was confused by additional symptoms - in some cases, even after fixing
the MBR, wubi would not boot. In other cases (as stated above), users
not using wubi had the same symptoms. These may be totally unrelated. In
any case, I didn't see any update to wubildr so that theory didn't pan
out.
