   That's great.  I have also used Ubuntu in VMWare and it has worked
well in the past.  What I would do next is verify that the file has
downloaded correctly.  If you go to the release directory
http://releases.ubuntu.com/feisty/ you will see a file called MD5sum
that will have the checksums for all the files.

   All you need to do is download a program called md5sum.exe (easily
found on Google) and run it on the *.iso image that you have and if the
number it generates matches the one listed in the MD5SUM file, then you
have a good image and there is something else wrong.  If not I would
recommend re-downloading the image again.
