Thank you for taking time to report this issue. It is technically a different issue from bug #311634, but they both stem from the same root cause. There were some naming mistakes made in the past, and there are so many packages that depend on libpcap that updating all of them would be an enormous undertaking.
While it should be changed at some point, Ubuntu doesn't have the manpower to maintain such a huge delta from Debian (the source of our libpcap package) over such a non-critical problem. If you want it changed, I suggest you talk to the Debian maintainer. Once it is fixed there, Ubuntu will inherit it automatically. The debian package page for libpcap is at <http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/libpcap0.8> ** Changed in: libpcap (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- libpcap0.8 - packet names a bit outdated https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/610094 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
