Public bug reported:
I recently used a 10.04 Lucid LiveCD to do a dual boot on my laptop.
Audio CDs are recognised and played ok. I guess this means the image on
the LiveCD is ok.
I also used it to do a fresh install to my old Mesh Tower (to replace
Hardy 8.04) but sadly it wont recognise Audio CDs, either in the CD
drive or the CD/DVD drive. It recognises Data CDs ok and puts an icon on
desktop which can be browsed. It seems to recognise DVDs ok, loads Totem
and plays the Copyright warning.
If I load Lucid from the LiveCD I get the same problem, so I guess the
Lucid image on my hard drive is ok.
If I load Hardy 8.04 from LiveCD it recognises Audio CDs ok, puts an
icon on the desktop, loads the player automatically and I can then play
them ok. I guess this means my CD drive is ok.
Under Lucid it spends some time looking at the Audio CD (drive whirrs,
led flashes) but seems to fail to recognise it. Nothing appears on the
desktop, the Rythmbox player is not loaded. If I load the player
manually, a “scan removable media” does nothing.
If I have the File Browser displaying “computer” when I insert the CD,
the device disappears from the list and only re-appears when the drawer
is opened. All this happens on the CD drive and the CD/DVD drive.
I guess there must be a bit of the puzzle missing. I would appreciate
any pointers. Anyone got any ideas?
