Hi Hagar, assuming this is still a problem for you, would you mind installing the latest sound drivers: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAlsaDriverModules and reboot.
If that does not help, please try the following: 1) Install snd-hda-tools from https://launchpad.net/~diwic/+archive/ppa 2) start hda analyzer from a terminal with "sudo hda_analyzer" 3) go to "Node[0x19] PIN" 4) in the combobox "VREF", try different settings and see if they improve quality.
