Public bug reported:
I first found this bug on my Eee pc 1000 HE. cheese would immediately
crash upon being lauched. i tried the camera using the xp half of the
dualboot; it worked fine.
I saw the same thing on my desktop. It has a tv tuner card, which for
whatever reason cheese defaults to, leaving a blank screen. when i
switch it to my logitech quickcam 4000, it immediately crashes and
closes out.
I tried vlc on that desktop. I set it up and it gave me the vlc logo on
a blank screen.
i tied the webcam on my laptop. same symptoms. it is a dualboot as well,
the cam tested out a fine.
they all run ubuntu 10.10. the desktop runs x64 while the other two are
x86.
only common thread is the release of ubuntu and the fact the webcam is
usb
