I tested the current amd64 desktop burned on a CD-RW, on an USB stick,
and in kvm. In all three cases it worked flawlessly. The squashfs errors
indicate that there is some trouble reading the CD, and thus all sorts
of things break. For now I'm willing to blame bad hardware or CD media,
but can you please attach /var/log/kern.log after a complete boot?
