I am experiencing a similar problem on feisty beta. I think this is very simple. Samba has two daemons: nmbd queries other smb servers, and smbd is the server for other clients.
When /etc/init.d/samba runs, nmbd successfully starts, but smbd dies! Since it isn't running, noone can connect (duh). Fortunately smbd logs it's death. I am attaching the log file /var/log/samba/log.smbd. It appears there is no plugin compiled to support smbpasswd, so smbd refuses to start. ** Attachment added: "smbd log file demonstrates the issue" http://librarian.launchpad.net/7031131/log.smbd -- samba sharing problems feisty https://launchpad.net/bugs/91221 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
