Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager
Whenever I transfer a lot of data (typically FTP), the wireless connection randomly dies. It doesn't drop, the system still thinks the connection is fine, but there is simply no further data coming in. At that point, I have to go to the wireless drop-down menu and select the same connection that I'm already connected to. That resets the connection and everything is fine. However, this bug makes transferring bigger (or multiple) files near impossible since it constantly happens - it happened about 5 times in the last 30 minutes. On days when I don't transfer a lot of data, I rarely have problems. This is a Sony VAIO VPCS111FM. This bug is similar to 473502, but I decided to open a new one since this is a different chipset. This is Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS, with 2.6.32-24-generic (had this problem on all kernels since 10.4 came out). lspci output as follows: 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Core Processor DRAM Controller (rev 02) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) 00:16.0 Communication controller: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset HECI Controller (rev 06) 00:1a.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset USB2 Enhanced Host Controller (rev 05) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 05) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset PCI Express Root Port 1 (rev 05) 00:1c.1 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset PCI Express Root Port 2 (rev 05) 00:1c.2 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset PCI Express Root Port 3 (rev 05) 00:1c.3 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset PCI Express Root Port 4 (rev 05) 00:1c.4 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset PCI Express Root Port 5 (rev 05) 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset USB2 Enhanced Host Controller (rev 05) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge (rev a5) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 5 Series Chipset LPC Interface Controller (rev 05) 00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset 6 port SATA AHCI Controller (rev 05) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset SMBus Controller (rev 05) 00:1f.6 Signal processing controller: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset Thermal Subsystem (rev 05) 02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation WiFi Link 6000 Series (rev 35) 03:00.0 SD Host controller: Ricoh Co Ltd Device e822 03:00.1 System peripheral: Ricoh Co Ltd Device e230 03:00.3 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Ricoh Co Ltd Device e832 03:00.4 SD Host controller: Ricoh Co Ltd Device e822 04:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications AR8131 Gigabit Ethernet (rev c0) ff:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Core Processor QuickPath Architecture Generic Non-core Registers (rev 02) ff:00.1 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Core Processor QuickPath Architecture System Address Decoder (rev 02) ff:02.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Core Processor QPI Link 0 (rev 02) ff:02.1 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Core Processor QPI Physical 0 (rev 02) ff:02.2 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Core Processor Reserved (rev 02) ff:02.3 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Core Processor Reserved (rev 02) Apologies if this bug is a dupe, but the existing WiFi bugs seemed related, but not identical. --- Architecture: amd64 CRDA: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 EcryptfsInUse: Yes IfupdownConfig: auto lo iface lo inet loopback InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" - Release amd64 (20100429) IpRoute: 10.0.1.0/24 dev wlan0 proto kernel scope link src 10.0.1.11 metric 2 169.254.0.0/16 dev wlan0 scope link metric 1000 default via 10.0.1.1 dev wlan0 proto static Keyfiles: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory Package: network-manager 0.8-0ubuntu3 PackageArchitecture: amd64 ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-24.39-generic 2.6.32.15+drm33.5 Tags: lucid Uname: Linux 2.6.32-24-generic x86_64 UserGroups: adm admin audio cdrom dialout fax lpadmin plugdev sambashare tape video ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-collected ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Binary package hint: network-manager Whenever I transfer a lot of data (typically FTP), the wireless connection randomly dies.
