Public bug reported: About half of the time the display freezes on boot. It is just before playing the welcome sound. It can also happen that it boots and then there is a popping noise in speakers which does not stop.

It seems this problem is related to graphics card HD4550 which outputs sound over HDMI. I am using open source drivers only. In previous versions of ubuntu I had all kind of other problems with this card. In 10.04 I had no sound at all. With Windows 7 on same machine everything works perfectly. I know there are always hints on configuring the model in alsa-conf but as my system is alpha-3 it would be good if somebody could tackle the real problem.
