Public bug reported: Alsa only shows "master" and "PCM" as output on this card. There is no option for external toslink optical spdif. There is no subdevice for the spdif link. This link works under Windows.
This info-collecting script from "https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems" produces an error: r...@steph-desktop:~# find /proc/asound/card* -type f | grep codec | xargs grep "^Codec\|^Vendor Id\|^Subsystem Id\|^Revision Id" | grep -B2 -A1 $(lspci -nv | grep -A1 0403 | grep Subsystem | sed 's/://g' | awk '{ print $2 }') grep: 1462aa50: No such file or directory My guess is that either the southbridge (ATI SB850) or the audio codec (VIA VT1818) are too recent and lack proper identifications of its capabilities in Linux. The headphone output works.
