Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

To demonstrate that anonymous browsing is enabled by default:

smbclient -L //localhost -U foobar
enter a blank password

The list of shares is returned.

Personally, leaving samba open for anonymous browsing makes me a little
nervous. There's no good reason to have it enabled, and I would prefer
to see it disabled by default. To do so, in smb.conf, set within
[global]

restrict anonymous = 2

** Affects: samba (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Untriaged
         Status: Unconfirmed

** Visibility changed to: Public
