** Description changed: Neither K3b, Brasero or the file managers (Dolphin, nautilus) detect a blank DVD, I'd like to burn onto (DVD-RW). This is true for the current Lucid kernel, but also for 2.6.35 from Maverick (in Maverick and Lucid) - I've just upgraded to Maverick. When inserting the DVD, the drive's LED provides feedback and behaves as always, blinking a few times, but then nothing happens in Ubuntu/Kubuntu. Audio CDs or Data CDs work fine. I have not tested any commercial or non-empty DVD yet. This appears to have regressed during Lucid development; I am quite certain that it was still working during the Christmas holidays in 2009 - I cannot say when this got broken, because I rarely burn anything. + + I've tested it with the upstream kernel build (Linux base + 2.6.35-999-generic #201008060910 SMP Fri Aug 6 10:22:05 UTC 2010 i686 + GNU/Linux) and the empty disk does not get accepted with it, too.
