Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amsynth

Hit this in 9.10. See upstream news blurb for 1.2.1 release,
2009/04/08: "fixed a buffer overflow crash, which prevented running on
recent ubuntu versions". By crash they mean something like this:

$ amsynth -a oss
amSynth 1.2.0
Copyright 2001-2006 Nick Dowell and others.
amSynth comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY
This is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it
under certain conditions; see the file COPYING for details
<OSSAudioDriver> error writing to dsp_handle_: Success
*** buffer overflow detected ***: amsynth terminated
======= Backtrace: =========
/lib/libc.so.6(__fortify_fail+0x37)[0x7f6ad22dab87]

...and so on through the bowels of libc and other such. -a alsa was
little if any different, that's fallen off the scrollback.

** Affects: amsynth (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
