The fglrx (binary ATI) driver hasn't been updated for X.Org 7.1 yet, due
to licensing issues. This is likely to be fixed in the next 12-24 hours,
though.

You have two choices:

1. Wait for the next upload of linux-restricted-modules package (which
contains the 'fglrx' driver

2. Use the open source driver (called 'ati'). For that, you'll need to
update /etc/X11/xorg.conf to refer to 'ati' instead of 'fglrx' for its
video driver.

** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu)
Sourcepackagename: xorg => linux-restricted-modules-2.6.17
   Importance: Untriaged => High
       Status: Unconfirmed => Confirmed

** Summary changed:

** Description changed:

+ (compatible with X.Org 7.1)

  Hi,

  Since a few days now, X refuses to start on my Edgy. It complains about
  the server version being different than the drivers version I think (I
  will give the exact error message later).

  I usually use fglrx driver, I tried fbdev & vesa but none of them works
  anymore. Maybe just some xorg packages that have not been updated yet?

  Anyway it would be nice to have some infos on this.
