Public bug reported:

I've using a ThinkPad X201. I recently got a PS2 keyboard which I
connect to the laptop using a PS2 to USB converter cable.

The keyboard works fine in the default configuration. No issues
whatsoever.

However, when I remap the Caps Lock key to Ctrl (I use Emacs a lot and
find it more convenient to use the Caps Lock as my Ctrl key), they key
starts to misbehave in all application. The misbehaviour is as follows

Usually, if I hold down a modifier key while hitting a series of regular
keys (e.g. Hold down "Shift" and then type the 'x', 'o', 'r', 'g' keys)
the effect of the modifier to retained for all the keys (in the above
example, I'd see uppercase XORG on my screen). With the remapped Ctrl
key though, if I wait for a short while (maybe 1/5th of a second) in
between hitting the normal keys, the modifier is switched off. This is
huge headache. I use Emacs to edit and I often hold down the control key
and type a series of regular keystrokes. For example, holding Ctrl down
and hitting 'n', 'e', 'SPC', 'a' would be like hitting Ctrl-a, Ctrl-e,
Ctrl-SPC and Ctrl-a. this would mark a region of text for me. With this
bug, I'd get the first Ctrl-n and after than see 'e a' on my screen.

This bug is observable only when I swap Caps and Ctrl. If I use the
regular ctrl, it's not there. It is visible in a full fledged Gnome
session as well as a vanilla xinit without any window managers or other
applications. I cannot swap keys in the console so I don't know if it's
there. My regular laptop keyboard doesn't exhibit this problem.

I used xev to see if my Caps lock key (after remapping) does an auto-
repeat and verified that it doesnt.

xorg seemed like the right place to file this. If there are any more
details you'd like, please let me know and I'll add them to the bug.
