Try opening a terminal and running "sudo apt-get update". This will refresh the 
system's list of software. Most software management actions do this themselves, 
but if it was not done during your test, the system would not realize it was 
fixed.
If there's any errors, paste them here, but with any luck you're good.

I get this when I try to open Synaptic...it doesn't say where to repoort it so 
here it is: E: malformed line 43 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (URI 
parse) E: the list of sources could not be read. Go to the repository dialog to 
correct the problem. E:_ cache>open()failed, please report
