Seems like it was a program I installed that was keeping the CPU working... I removed an extremly cpu intensive program called 'boinc' and went back to normal. Too bad it didn't show up in the System Monitor. If you want to see ALL the processes you're running, installi htop. Open a terminal and type:
> sudo apt-get install htop Run it: > htop Look for cpu consuming processes (at the top).
