Could you please download a live CD for Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid, and burn it
to a disk. Boot the Live CD, and check to see whether you can choose the
input you want to use. If you can use the input on the live CD, I
suggest you consider upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04. You can download 10.04
from http://releases.ubuntu.com.
Please let us know whether running Lucid either as an install/upgrade,
or the live CD allows you to use the audio input.
