Reading that tutorial, I discourage its use. Following that tutorial is
likely to break things on your system. The best way to update your
drivers is to follow the procedure here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAlsaDriverModules

Before you do that, you will have to go through /usr/local and clean out
any alsa/asound related files. Once this is cleaned out, follow the
above linked procedure.

Update your drivers as per the above link, and report back as to whether
this solves your problem.
