I'm still new to etckeeper, so please bear with me if I'm just simply
misunderstanding.

My /etc is under git control. I thought I should be able to make
commits straight via git as well. If I change a file under /etc and
then do "git commit $file" .etckeeper will show up under the "# Changed
but not updated:" section of the commit message editor. It also seems
wrong to mix changes to the config file with changes to meta-data in the
same commit (if that is what's happening). That's why I opened this
ticket. I now understand that apparently the metadata in .etckeeper
should be version-controlled as well. But currently something seems to
be wrong or at least unintuitive.
