I have tried changing every setting that I could find with no luck. Averatec 2150 (MSI motherboard) ati m200 radeon. Not sure that this is just a ubuntu issues as I have tried other deb based live cd's. From searching the boards KDE suffered from the same issue but a work around (modeset=0) worked for that. So could it be a kernel issue? This issue shows up on old and new hardware and numerous chipsets. Supported ATI chips have been helped by 10.5 drivers. Thinkpads that have acpitools can sometimes get it to suspend. I have been able to get hibernate to work, but it is just as quick to cold boot. I have written ATI as I suspect that some of this issued might be related to lack of support for older chipsets and closed drivers related to ATI.
