The program does work, and works well. It's just that the repository has the wrong package. I was just e-mailed 0.2rel-2.1 and it works great. It's a wonderful little program.
Synaptic says that the version I have is older than the repository version, but that may be incorrect. The repository version says 0.2rel-2. and that seems odd to me. So, the package in the repository is just the wrong package.
