Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I have tried to install both the 32- and 64-bit versions of Kubuntu
10.04.1 from CD, and have run into exactly the same failure every time
(while "configuring boot loader"). The traceback from the 64-bit
installer is:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/ubiquity/bin/ubiquity", line 524, in <module>
    main(oem_config)
File "/usr/lib/ubiquity/bin/ubiquity", line 509, in main

    status = int(status)
ValueError: invalid literal for int() with base 10: ''

I no longer have the 32-bit traceback available, but it occurred in
exactly the same place, with exactly the same "ValueError" message at
the end.

I verified the MD5 checksums on both images and verified the integrity
of the CDs from the Kubuntu menu. Just for luck, I also ran the memory
test for a while, and found no errors. In case it matters, the
motherboard is a Gigabyte MA785GM-US2H, the processor is an Athlon II
X2, and I am trying to install to a Western Digital 1TB SATA disk (which
already contains an installation of Windows XP in a 150GB partition)
from a Mad Dog PATA DVD drive.
