Okay, so I've made a somewhat more permanent solution than the init script, please do the following:
1) Download and install http://people.canonical.com/~diwic/temp/alsa-intel-hda-update-diwic-m6500-dkms_1.0.23_all.deb 2) Reboot 3) To verify that the new version is installed, run "modinfo snd-hda-codec" and make sure "alsa-intel-hda-update-diwic-m6500" is listed as part of the filename 4) Check whether internal mic, external mic, and all other inputs and outputs are working, then report back.
