I was just trying to reproduce it again and it didn't happen every time.
Here's a more reliable and detailed way to reproduce it:
1. Run transmission
2. Close it with the X in the corner (making it hide with "Show Transmission"
doesn't trigger the bug)
3. Run Firefox and Maximize it
4. Press "Show Transmission"
I'm also running a non-composited desktop with plain metacity.
