The full details of resetting the root password are here: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/resetting-permissions.html Given the details in DpkgTerminaLog.txt, I agree that having that password right during the db config step should allow you to complete the configuration, so when you have reset it , run dpkg-reconfigure drupal6 and that should allow you to continue. Please also take the time to read /usr/share/doc/drupal6/README.Debian for further configuration details.
