I first noticed the problem playing flash video, Shockwave Flash plugin 10.0
r32 in Firefox 3.6.8. Now I notice that the Ubuntu startup sound doesn't play
all the way through. I probably would have thought the sound problem was a
symptom rather than a cause, except for the syslog messages from alsa-sink.c
telling me to report this:
Aug 27 03:04:54 i7-desktop pulseaudio[5709]: alsa-sink.c: ALSA woke us up to
write new data to the device, but there was actually nothing to write!
Aug 27 03:04:54 i7-desktop pulseaudio[5709]: alsa-sink.c: Most likely this is a
bug in the ALSA driver 'snd_hda_intel'. Please report this issue to the ALSA
developers.
Aug 27 03:04:54 i7-desktop pulseaudio[5709]: alsa-sink.c: We were woken up with
POLLOUT set -- however a subsequent snd_pcm_avail() returned 0 or another value
< min_avail.

Both top and gnome-system-monitor show no processes consuming CPU in unusual
quantities, although the system load remains high.
