In short, I haven't had a problem with this again. I don't specifically recall having this problem with 10.04, but it's possible -- However, I do remember having a problem with disk checks and start-up in 9.10. But just the other day, my computer (although a different one, with a different graphics driver) performed disk checks and booted normally. This bug is far too old to verify.

You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/) If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log? Thanks in advance. [This is an automated message. Status in “xserver-xorg-video-ati” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: OS: Lucid Lynx When the "Routine Disk Check" reached near completion, the screen ceased to display anything and appears to have frozen. However, I ssh'ed into my computer with the frozen display and was able to function normally, and when I checked the processes, no other processes seemed to be running, particularly any X-related processes or gdm. I then executed a remote reboot and the computer rebooted normally (since it did not perform another disk check).
