Public bug reported:
I downloaded and used the alternate install option, ( I have 2 hard
drives, one for Windows and one for Ubuntu), and allocated the second
drive for Ubuntu. I do not like putting the boot files on the first
drive, so I installed Grub to a floppy disk. When completed, I get a
"Read error" and it will not boot into Ubuntu, and then boots into
windows. I then opened partition magic and it indicates the second hard
drive is "Bad". It has done this to three separate hard drives.
I have since reloaded 8.04 and used the Grub boot loader to a floppy
drive and have no problems. I have always used the alternate install
method and never had this problem before.
As additional information, originally I upgraded from 8.04 to 10.04.
Once the process was complete, everything looked fine until I tried to
access internet sites. It took at least one minute to access any
internet site and about the same length of time to log into them.
Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

First hard drive (40 gig) for windows
Second hard drive (40 gig) for Ubuntu
