Hi,
This is odd, it might be worth noting what the log of the indicator-
applet is saying. If inidcator-sound is installed then it should appear
in the menu regardless of whether there are sound devices available
(which by the looks of the trace above there are no devices available).
It might also be worth checking for any crashes of indicator-applet.
Logs are usually saved to /var/crash/$name and path of process that died
