Thanks for reporting this bug and helping to make ubuntu better.
There are some troublesome segfaults in your dmesg, and one of
those was dpkg-deb segfaulting on one of the packages being upgraded.
Hopefully this doesn't mean there is a hardware error, but it might. To
try and start with a clean slate, could you please:
1. reboot
2. sudo apt-get clean
in case some of the cached, downloaded, and uninstalled packages are corrupt
3. sudo apt-get update
4. sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Please let us know if that succeeds.
